TELL YOUR STORY WITH THE DAILY YOUTH THEATRE
OSKALOOSA, IA — The Daily Arts Academy, the George Daily Auditorium’s after school theatre program, continues with a new session on storytelling.
“This is a class about creating full stories with strong characters and putting those stories on stage,” said Andy McGuire, Youth Director of the program. “Telling those stories is the main focus, but we also will be adding in some of the things we learned in our first session on movement. If you are a returning student, it is the next step in the theatrical journey, but if you are a new student there will be some exciting new ways to discover the theatre world.”
Classes begin on Monday, April 8th and run through Friday, May 10th. All sessions are split into two packages according to age and grade. The red package, for students in grades 1 – 3, meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45 – 6:00 p.m. with adjustments on days with early outs. Price is $60 per session. The blue package meets Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for students in grades 4 – 8 from 3:45 – 6:00 p.m. with adjustments on days with early outs. Cost for the blue package is $90 per session.
“The class was great and my daughter really enjoyed it,” said Julie Miller, parent of one of the Youth Theatre students. “It has helped her explore her creative side, and has given her a voice that she didn’t know she had.”
At the end of the six-week session, a showcase open to parents and the community will allow the students to show a portion of what they’ve learned.
“We’re more about the experience than the production. We want to help performers grow,” said McGuire. “The showcase is different from a production because it’s not about dazzling lights or scenery. Students perform things they’ve created themselves, so there’s a lot of ownership on their part.”
Registration and payment will be accepted until the first day of class. If you have multiple students or would like to discuss need-based financial aid or alternate payment plans including a weekly plan, those options are available.
