More Charges In Connection With February Incident

KNOXVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE

Knoxville, Iowa – Two additional people are being charged in connection with the February incident where a 15-year-old girl was recorded performing oral sex on a 19-year-old man in Knoxville.

Jordan Donovan Cowman, a 19-year-old Des Moines resident is being charged with violating Iowa Code 728.12(1) Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, a class C felony. Mr. Cowman is the person responsible for recording the incident and also disseminated it to at least one other person.

Also being charged is a 17-year-old rural Knoxville girl. This juvenile is being charged with violating Iowa Code 728.12(3), an aggravated misdemeanor. This juvenile received the recording and showed it to at least one other person.

Jake Christian Smith, the 19-year-old Knoxville man performing the act, was arrested last week on charges of violating Iowa Code 728.12(1) Sexual Exploitation of a Minor and 709.4(2/c/4) Sexual Assault in the Third Degree, both class C felonies.

A class C felony is punishable by confinement for no more than ten years and a fine of at least $1,000 but not more than $10,000.

The Knoxville Police Department is continuing to investigate this incident.

A criminal charge is merely a criminal charge and not an indication of guilt. All suspects should be considered innocent until proven guilty.
