Velma Padgett, 91, of Albia and formerly of Oskaloosa passed away Saturday morning, March 9, 2013, at the Oakwood Nursing and Rehab Center in Albia, Iowa.
Velma Elizabeth Padgett, the daughter of Lloyd and Nellie Lockard Walker, was born, July 6, 1921, in Barnes City, Iowa. Velma attended school in Barnes City and then in What Cheer for high school. March 10, 1939, she married Raymond Leroy Padgett. They made their home on a farm east of the Nelson Pioneer Farm, where they lived and worked for 15 years. In 1959 they moved into Oskaloosa. Velma and Raymond moved to Eddyville in 2002 to be closer to their daughter. She has resided at Oakwood Nursing and Rehab for the past 18 months. Velma enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.
Velma’s family includes a daughter, Linda (Rodney) Vander Beek of Eddyville; a son, Rick (Brenda) Padgett of Hamilton, IA; a son-in-law, Dennis Seibert of Harvey, IA; eleven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Erma Giffen of Minnesota; a sister-in-law, Fairy Patterson of Oskaloosa; and a brother-in-law, Jim Hicklin of Woodbine, IA.
In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond on February 23, 2007; a son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Quida Padgett, a daughter, Caroline Seibert and several sisters and brothers.
Graveside funeral services for Velma will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
Family visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel; at 10:15 a.m., a procession will form to leave for the cemetery.
