Everett J. Northway, 82, of Oskaloosa and San Angelo, Texas, went to be with his Lord and savior Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at his residence in Texas.

Everett was born October 6, 1930, at Madrid, Iowa, the son of Everett and Dolly Walker Northway. Early in life he worked at a hardware store in Des Moines. On June 21, 1953, he was united in marriage to Mary K. Wren in Pella, Iowa. Later he worked at Fawn Engineering in Des Moines, and at Rolscreen (now Pella Corporation). Lastly he worked at Vermeer Manufacturing in Pella and retired from there after 30 years. Everett and his family lived on a farm near Pella where he raised hogs while working at Vermeer. He was a Jack of all trades.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa, the Oskaloosa Eagles and the Moose Lodges. He was also the co-chair to the first MDA Fund drive that was held in Mahaska County. He and Mary enjoyed many winters in Texas. He loved county western music, he and Mary traveled all over the United States to attend concerts. He also enjoyed dancing to country music and woodworking. Everett delighted in spending time on the swing in the yard, much of his delight came from his grandchildren and neighborhood children that would gather around while he watched them play. Everett was eagerly anticipating the birth of his next great grandchild Shelby Wharton, to be born in May.

His family includes his wife of nearly 60 years, Mary Northway of Oskaloosa; two children and their spouses, Judith and Rodney Wharton of San Angelo, Texas and Fred and Bonnie Northway of Oskaloosa; 6 grandchildren, Robert (& Tiny) Northway, Timothy (& Brenda) Northway, Chad (& Monica) Northway, Ray (& Stephanie) Wharton, Cherlynn (& Jason) Waite, and Travis Northway; eleven great grandchildren, Misty Northway, Dalton Northway, Bobby Northway, Cole Waite, Jaxon Waite, Douglas Northway, Dulcie Northway, Nico Northway, Venitra Northway, Avery Northway, and Jessica Northway; a great grandson, Ashton Northway; and his sister, Dolly Watters of Des Moines.

Everett was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, James Wharton; a brother, John Northway; and six sisters, Hattie McPhearson, Susie Jarngin, Ruth Lilly, Eleanor Fields, Rosie Eveland, and Dorothy Wheeler.

Visitation will begin Sunday morning after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Sunday afternoon from 1-3 to greet friends and relatives. The Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Bates Funeral Chapel.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 18, 2013, at 10 a.m. in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Jeffry Belger officiating.

Burial will be in the Friends Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Everett Northway Memorial Fund.
