Central’s Coleman wins league honor again
PELLA— Iowa Conference women’s track MVP Felicia Coleman (senior, Houston, Texas, J. Frank Dobie HS) of Central College has been tabbed the league’s female athlete of the week.
Meanwhile, freshman West Adelman (Geneva, Ill.) has been named the men’s tennis player of the week.
Coleman led Central to a third-place finish at the league indoor championships Sunday, capturing a pair of victories in the 55 meters (7.17) and the 200 meters (24.92). Her 200-meter mark cracked the previous conference record as well as her own school record.
Coleman, the first Central student-athlete to receive women’s indoor MVP recognition, also ran the second leg of the 4×200-meter relay (1:44.57) and anchored the 4×400 relay (4:00.18). Both relays finished second.
It’s the sixth time Coleman has been cited, winning performer of the week honors four times in the indoor season and twice in the outdoor slate. She’s been recognized three times this spring as women’s track events performer of the week, including two times as female athlete of the week.
Adelman garnered two wins against Nebraska Wesleyan Saturday. He paired with Kyle Freischlag (junior, Downers Grove, Ill., Downers Grove South HS) for an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles before securing the 7-2 team win with a 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 triumph at No. 2 singles. Adelman improved to 8-0 in singles play, with a 4-0 spring record.
