Nate McGinnis wins Outstanding Soloist of the Day!

On Saturday, February 23th, the Eddyville Blakesburg Fremont Jazz Band placed 1st in class 2A at the Indian Hills Jazz Festival in Ottumwa. Several members of the band earned Outstanding Soloist Awards for their solo performances: Samantha Claypool; alto sax, Heath Rice; trombone, Anna Haselhuhn; trumpet, Jessica Jones; piano, Nathan McGinnis; drums, Courtney Durst; vibes, Riley Arnold; alto sax, Jessica Jones; flute, Emma Haselhuhn; tenor sax,

Nathan McGinnis was chosen as the Outstanding Soloist of the Day in class 2A competition for his outstanding performance on the drums. Samantha Claypool was named Honorable Mention for Outstanding Soloist of the Day for her work on the alto saxophone. The bands’ next competition will be this Saturday at the District Jazz Contest at Iowa City West High School. Bands that place 1st or 2nd at the district contest will qualify to compete at the Iowa Jazz Championships in April. The band will perform in concert with the junior high jazz band on Thursday March 21st at the EBFHS Cafetorium.
