The Oskaloosa Fire Department is currently participating in the Iowa State Fire Marshall’s Office Smoke Detector Project and recently received a shipment of one hundred (100) smoke detectors that are available to needy home owners. One of the goals of this campaign is to make sure no child in the State of Iowa grows up in a home without a working smoke detector. Another is to install working detectors in homes of low income elderly and the disabled. Early detection and warning are key factors to the survival of Iowans involved in house fires. This program is open to residents who live within the Oskaloosa Fire Department service area.

These detectors are available on a first come/first serve basis and must be installed by a member of the Oskaloosa Fire Department. There is no charge for the detector or the installation. Interested parties should contact the Oskaloosa Fire Department to determine if you qualify and arrange installation at 641-673-3541 extension 2.
