Doland Sworn In As Supervisor
Oskaloosa, Iowa – It was a week in the making, but on Monday morning Mark Doland was sworn in as Mahaska County’s newest supervisor.
The final count came in after the vote was canvassed, with Doland receiving 1398 votes to Rielly’s 1377.
After the meeting was over, Doland spoke about the race finally being decided. “Well, it was a very tight race there for… since last Tuesday and I’m glad to have that behind me and I’m excited to start my new role as county supervisor.”
One of the first things Doland says he wants to do, was get down to business. He noted the budget hearings that were scheduled to take place the following day. “to try to get that where it needs to be because they have to have their budget certified by a certain date anyhow, so it’s going to be jumping in with both feet, I guess, right off the bat.”
Doland hopes that what he can personally bring to the office is an ability to talk with people on both sides. “Try to bring them together to gain more understanding of the mechanics of government.” Doland says being new to the position, he will have to feel his way through the process, “but I do have some experiences working with other boards that I think will benefit me.”
Dolands first day in office started on Tuesday, where the discussion of the upcoming budget is of top priority.
