Central’s Page wins conference honor
PELLA—Central College wrestler Daniel Page (Yelm, Wash., Tumwater HS) has been cited as the Iowa Conference male athlete of the week.
A 125-pound sophomore, Page captured three wins at the league duals Saturday. He knocked off Wartburg’s Gilberto Camacho, who is ranked No. 3 in Division III, by a 3-2 decision before snaring a 3-0 decision over Dubuque’s Nicholas Rivera and a 16-1 technical fall (5:30) over Buena Vista’s Branden Schultz.
Page’s victory over Camacho was his second upset of the season. He tripped former fourth-ranked Jimmy Gotto of Coe by a 4-2 decision in November.
Page is 20-5 this season and is a two-time placewinner, taking second at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (Wis.) Invitational and third at the Knox (Ill.) tourney. He has a 42-22 career mark.
The No. 29 Dutch (10-5) are back on the mat Friday, facing Simpson College at 7 p.m. in Indianola. Central makes a home appearance Saturday, tackling No. 24 Luther College at 3:30 p.m. at H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse.
