Margaret passed away early Saturday morning a Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa at the age of 59 years, 7 months and 4 days.
Margaret Lynn Johnson Chilcote was born, June 22, 1953, in Oskaloosa to Leroy “Johnny” and Mary Strattan Johnson. She was a 1971 graduate of Oskaloosa High school and a 1972 graduate of the Ottumwa Beauty Academy. Her first job as a beautician was at Taylor Beauty Shop in downtown Oskaloosa. Margaret married Lysle Edward Chilcote, October 13, 1973, at the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. After they married she continued to work as a beautician until her daughters were born. She remained at home with them until they were in junior high; when she went back to work in 1989 at Casey’s General Store on North Market St. In 1994, Margaret began working at the bakery at Hy-Vee and later as a cashier. She worked at Hy-Vee for 16 years, until her health required her retirement. Margaret volunteered at her daughters’ preschool when they were at Jack and Jill Preschool. Margaret enjoyed her cats and collected all kinds of cat memorabilia. She also loved to crochet, everyone in her immediate and extended family had something crocheted by her. Over the years she donated afghans to nursing homes and to needy individuals through her sister’s shop, Ken’s This and That, in Nebraska. After she received treatment at the MHP Infusion Center, Margaret found a new outlet for crocheting generosity.
Margaret’s family includes her husband of 39 years, Lysle; her daughters: Angela (Doug) Rexroth of Kirkville, IA and Robyn (Jeff) Hoppman of Riverside, IA; four grandchildren: DC Rexroth at home in Kirkville, and Tyler, Kayla and Hailie Hoppman at home in Riverside; sisters: Carol (Bob) Barnes of Oskaloosa, Sandy Guthrie of Republican City, NE, and Becky (Steve) Ogden of Nevada, IA; brothers: Bernard (Janis) Johnson of Hedrick, IA and Mike (Linda) Johnson of Milton, FL; her father and mother-in-law, Louis and Genevieve Chilcote of Oskaloosa; and a sister-in-law, Carol (Stephen) Heilman of Broken Arrow, OK.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law: Louis Kiefer and Kenny Guthrie, and a niece, Mariann Asher.
Visitation: Will begin at 11 a.m., Tuesday morning, January 29, 2013 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel. The family will be present from 5 – 7 p.m. to greet visitors.
Funeral Service: 11 a.m., Wednesday morning, January 30, 2013 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alvern Boetsma of the Good News Chapel officiating.
Interment: Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
