OSKALOOSA, IA – Retired Chief Judge James Q. Blomgren has begun private practice in the Crookham-Johnson Law Office on the south side of the square in downtown Oskaloosa. He retired from the bench December 6, 2012 after having served as a District Court Judge since 1998 and as Chief Judge of Iowa’s Eighth Judicial District since 2001.

As an attorney in the Crookham-Johnson Law Office, he will be working with clients in various legal areas including criminal defense, family law, juvenile law and civil trials.

Blomgren practiced law in Oskaloosa and the surrounding communities for over 20 years prior to being selected as a District Court Judge. His practice emphasized contested matters in various courts and administrative agencies. He received his B.A., History at the University of Iowa and his J.D. at the University of Virginia.

Throughout his career, Blomgren has been an active member of the Iowa Bar and his community. He has served on the Iowa Bar Association Board of Governors and has been active in the Children’s Justice Initiative.He has served as an Adjunct Professor at William Penn University and has been published in the Drake Law Review.
