Ivan L. Woods, 83, of Oskaloosa and formerly of Delta, died Wednesday, December 19, 2012 in Oskaloosa. He was born Sunday, June 23, 1929 in Williamsburg, Iowa the son of Darrell and Mabel Smith Woods. Following school he went to work at Elwood and Elwood Farm. He then was drafted in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge he worked at Amana Refrigeration for over 20 years. On February 27, 1959 Ivan was united in marriage to Leona Short in Delta and she died November 30, 1977. He then worked at William Penn College in Oskaloosa as a night watchman, retiring from there in 1978. Ivan loved fishing, hunting, trapping, mushroom hunting, and gardening. He was especially proud of his tomatoes. Ivan’s family includes his daughters: Brenda (& Michael) Thomas of South English and Denise Van Dee of Delta; 5 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a brother: Marvin Woods of Millersburg; and a sister: Carolyn (& Jerry) Ridenour of Marion. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and two sisters: Dorla Blair and Rita Neiderhisar; a brother-in-law: George Neiderhisar. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont with Pastor Henry Goetz officiating. Burial will be in the Garrett Cemetery in Delta. Graveside military rites will be given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W. Visitation will begin Friday after 3 P.M. in the Fremont Funeral Chapel with the family present at the funeral chapel from 5 – 7 P.M. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Delta Methodist Church.
