Lottery Luck Strikes Twice For New Sharon Woman

DES MOINES, Iowa – Lottery luck struck twice at an Oskaloosa store last week, and the winner of both big prizes has come forward.
Carrie Bainbridge, 53, of New Sharon said it was a complete fluke that she ended up with two tickets in Iowa’s $100,000 Cash Game with the same numbers for the drawing on Dec. 5, and an even bigger fluke that each of those tickets won a top prize of $100,000 that night. Bainbridge said she had always purchased tickets individually, but just recently realized she could enjoy the convenience of buying tickets for more than one upcoming drawing.
“I already had the new tickets before I realized the old tickets were still good,” she said. “So, that’s how I got two.”
Bainbridge said she’s been playing a set of numbers for a long time.
“They were just random numbers,” she said.
Bainbridge and her husband, Bill, own two convenience stores in Oskaloosa. One is CB Liquor at 1202 A Ave. E. where she purchased the winning tickets and the other is a Wigg’s Country Store. The two stores have been in Bill’s family since 1959.
Bainbridge claimed her prize Dec. 6 at the Iowa Lottery’s headquarters in Des Moines. She said that she and Bill have some ideas for how to use the winnings.
“I’ve thought of a couple things to do but it’s like I told him, you know, I said, ‘We’ll just sit on it for a couple weeks, let the wind up kind of wind down and then we’ll decide what to do with it,'” she said.
The winning numbers in the Dec. 5 drawing of Iowa’s $100,000 Cash Game were: 7-13-25-26-33. Both of Bainbridge’s tickets matched all five numbers drawn to win the top prize.
Players in Iowa’s $100,000 Cash Game choose five numbers from a pool of 35. Tickets in the game cost $1 and drawings are held at 8:28 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The odds of winning the game’s top prize are 1 in 324,632.
