Milwaukee, Wis.–The William Penn women’s basketball team struggled from the floor in a 68-43 loss to #15 Cardinal Stritch at the La Quinta Stritch Classic Monday.

The Lady Statesmen (6-6) only allowed the Wolves (11-3) to make 39.1% of their attempts, but failed even more by shooting just 24.2% themselves.

Cardinal Stritch led 43-18 at intermission and unfortunately it did not get any better for the visitors. Taylor Reed (Sr., Kalamazoo, Mich., Communication) paced the navy and gold with 12 points.

Janay Pritchett (So., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Biology) added nine points, while Sam Abens (Jr., Knoxville, Iowa, Physical Education) finished with eight. Three players, including Abens, paced the squad with six rebounds.

Katie Golomski (So., Milwaukee, Wis., Psychology), and Brittany May (Jr., Gladstone, Ore., Biology) each contributed six points.

“We were not good defensively,” Head Coach Mike Brown said. “We let our inability to make shots dictate how we wanted to play the game. We have to get more from everyone.”

Next: William Penn concludes the Classic by facing Finlandia (Mich.) Tuesday at 2 p.m.
