Steve Whaley, 57, of Albia, died Monday, December 10, 2012, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia. He was born June 4, 1955, in Maysville, Kentucky, the son of Billy Lee and Alice Cline Whaley. Steve worked various places throughout his life including: Oskaloosa Food Products for 16 years, Ziegler Industries, and as a switchman and locomotive mechanic for the railroad. In February of 2008, Steve moved to Nevada to continue working for Canac/Savage. He retired from the railroad in July of 2009 and spent a year delivering travel trailers across the United States. In May of 2010, he returned to Iowa and worked for Chamness Technologies. Steve retired on October 31, 2012, due to his failing health. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, going to mud runs, and building his model train set. He delighted in spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a 13 year member of ABATE District 14.

Steve’s family includes his long time significant other, Ann Ostermeyer of Albia; his children, B.J. Van Skike of Oskaloosa, Justin Kramer of Lafayette, Indiana, Tabetha Kramer and Brandon Kramer both in Fremont; seven grandchildren, Brooke Kramer, Paige Molesworth, Trenton Kramer, Libby Kramer, Trinity Kramer, R.C. Mickles and J.D. Mickles; three sisters, Lesa Cropper of Ohio, Tina Johnson of Ohio, and Sharon Fryman of Georgia; and four brothers.

He was preceded in death by his mother, and a brother, Allen Whaley.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 13, 2012, at 7 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Chaplain Steve Burger officiating. As was Steve’s wish his body will be cremated following the funeral ceremony. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Thursday after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5 p.m. until service time at 7 to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to Monroe County Hospice or ABATE District 14.
