Area Realtors and Salvation Army Team Up For One Day Event

Salvation Army of Mahaska County

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Mahaska County Salvation Army and the Mahaska County REALTOR®’s are teaming up Friday December 7th to help curb hunger and provide shelter and housing needs for residents of Mahaska County. This is the third year of this partnership throughout the mid-west and the country. This is the first year in Mahaska County.

This is one way one realtor, one office, or one group can give an hour or more to make a difference in our community. “We ring in the community we serve” one Realtor stated “and that builds stronger communities”.

REALTOR® Ring Day started in 2010 in Minnesota and North Dakota and last year seven more states joined in.

The idea to hold REALTOR® Ring Day came from a REALTOR® in Fargo who wanted to give real estate professionals an opportunity to support a cause familiar to
them; housing. The Salvation Army was the perfect fit because it offers so many housing-related programs.

If you’re a REALTOR® and want to sign up to bell ring, you’re in the right spot – the third annual REALTOR® Ring Day is coming Friday, Dec. 7. Hy-Vee and

Fareway will be providing locations for the bell ringers and local REALTOR®’s will be manning the bells.

Rest assured, bell ringing is fun and easy. All you need to do is show up, smile and ring a bell during your shift.

We understand it can get a little cold out there, but here’s something to warm your heart: An average hour of bell ringing brings in enough money to provide two hot meals and a night of shelter for someone or a family who would otherwise go hungry and homeless or without water or electricity or a home.

Last year 242 families representing 652 people in Mahaska County were able to remain in their homes with electricity, water, propane or natural gas or rent assistance raised last year. Over $23,113.50 dollars was used to help these families with housing. Want a little more info? Check out the entire bell ringer rundown.

Thanks for sharing the same mission with The Salvation Army. See you at the kettle on December 7!
