Brenda Canny, 68, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, November 8, 2012 at the Hospice Comfort House in Pella. She was born Sunday, May 21, 1944 in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Glenn William and Mildred Leola King Snyder. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1962. Following high school she attended Vennard College, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in general studies in 1967. She then worked at General United Insurance in Des Moines for 7 years. In 1974 she moved back to Oskaloosa to care for her mother. In 1974 Brenda began working at Hawkeye Lumber as a general bookkeeper for the company and worked there until her retirement in 2006. On May 1, 1981, Brenda was united in marriage to Ed Canny, Jr. Brenda loved baking, cooking, reading, knitting, word searches, and singing. She was a member of the Oskaloosa Evangelical Church and was very involved with the Oskaloosa Community Theater.

She is survived by her husband: Ed Canny of Oskaloosa; a daughter: Becky Canny of Lakeville, Minnesota; Bryan (& Molly) Canny of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, South America; 3 brothers: Beryl (& Phyllis) Snyder of Centralia, Missouri, Bob Snyder of Marshalltown, Bruce (& Ruby) Snyder of Oskaloosa; 3 sisters: Bernita Olson of Morris, Minnesota, Betty (& Roy) Murry of Lansing, Michigan, Donna Beth Benson of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother: Berkley Nelson Snyder; and a sister: Barbara Marilyn Snyder.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 12, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at Oskaloosa Evangelical Church with Pastor Dave Barner and Pastor Shannon Perry officiating. Burial will be in the University Park Cemetery in University Park. Visitation will begin Sunday after 12:00 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel with the family present from 2 – 4 P.M. at the funeral chapel to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
