Mahaska Health Partnership Offers SHIIP Counselor
MAHASKA COUNTY – If you have questions about Medicare, Mahaska Health Partnership has a Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) counselor available to assist you.
SHIIP provides free informational materials as well as one-on-one assistance for questions and problems related to Medicare benefits, Medicare supplement insurance, Medicare insurance claims and other related issues.
According to MHP Volunteer Coordinator Kim Langfitt, SHIIP does not recommend insurance companies, plans or agents. “SHIIP volunteers answer questions and provide impartial information to help Iowans who are on Medicare or Medicare eligible make well-informed decisions,” Langfitt said.
MHP Volunteer JoAnn Schefers has completed the six-day extensive SHIIP training program conducted by the State of Iowa Insurance Division. “Schefers is a valuable resource for our community,” Langfitt stressed. “She has extensive knowledge of Medicare coverage, supplemental insurance options and other resources to serve this age group.”
Schefers is available Tuesdays from 9 am to 4 pm, by appointment, on the second floor of Mahaska Health West (entrance #6) on the MHP campus in Oskaloosa. To make an appointment with a SHIIP counselor, please call 641-672-3342.
