William Penn Reaches Knockout Round at Kegel ISBPA Classic

Peoria, Ill.–The Statesmen rollers used an impressive Baker block to guarantee a spot in knockout competition at the Kegel ISBPA Collegiate Classic last Saturday and Sunday.

William Penn placed sixth in qualifying with 7,568 pins in six regular games and ten Baker games. The squad then also took sixth in the two-game knockout round (368 pins), but only the top four advanced to the second round.

After sitting on the bubble in regular competition, the navy and gold had the best Baker set of any team (1,992 pins) to move up two places to a comfortable sixth place (top eight advanced).

Robert Morris (Ill.) was the top team from start to finish in the 28-team event, eventually crushing Wichita State (Kan.) 434-343 in the championship round.

Jacob Kent of Robert Morris was the top individual in qualifying with 222.8 clip (1,337 pins).

Cameron Foster (Jr., West Jordan, Utah, Business Management) topped William Penn by placing ninth out of 193 participants with a 203.0 average.

Drew Balta (Jr., Walford, Iowa, Education) was next with a 192.5 average, while Conan Mackey (So., Bray, Ireland, Public Accounting) held a 186.5 mark and Piet Schaeffer (Jr., Livingston, Scotland, General Mathematics) managed a 181.0 average. The top four bowlers each started all six games.

Nathan Namanny (Jr., Denison, Iowa, Applied Mathematics) averaged 168.0 pins in three games, while Brandon Barboza (So., Brick, N.J., Sociology) knocked down 158.0 pins per game over two contests. Jacques Kaune (Fr., Anchorage, Alaska, Business Management) posted a score of 178 in his lone game.

Next: William Penn is off this weekend, returning to action November 10-11 at the ISYL Leatherneck Classic in Davenport and Milan, Ill.
