Statesmen Drop Out of Top Ten

William Penn University Athletics

Oskaloosa–The bigger you are, the harder you fall. The William Penn football team found that to be very true as the NAIA’s seventh top-25 poll was released today.

The Statesmen (7-1, 3-0 MWL) dropped six spots to #11 after a 28-19 loss to now-#7 St. Francis (Ind.) last week. The team is also now no longer the highest program from the Midwest League with Grand View entering the top ten at #9. St. Ambrose is 12th and St. Francis (Ill.) is 17th as well.

The nation’s top four remains the same with Marian (Ind.) still #1 (314 points, 13 first-place votes). Georgetown (Ky.), who has the last first-place vote, is second, while Missouri Valley is third and Morningside is fourth. Preseason #1 and defending national champion Saint Xavier (Ill.) is fifth.

#4 Morningside and #16 Northwestern also represent the state of Iowa.

The navy and gold travel for the final time Saturday, going to Deerfield, Ill. to meet Trinity International in MWL play at 1 p.m. Following this weekend, William Penn comes home to play St. Ambrose on November 3 and then Grand View on November 10.
