Indian Volleyball Ends Regular Season With Sweep Of Norwalk
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Volleyball team concluded the regular season with a straight-set sweep of Norwalk 25-14, 25-15, 25-12. This puts the Indians at 18-17 overall and 5-1, champions of the Little Hawkeye Conference. Before the match, Oskaloosa’s nine senior members were recognized for their contributions to the program – Ashley Bennett, Allie Christenson, Taylor Crawford, Katelyn Hasselman, Kylie Hill, Emily Peters, Joslyn Schaffner, Kena Veldhuizen, and Shawni Wills. The seniors played a big part in the victory as they totaled 33 of the teams 40 kills. Leading the way was Wills with 12 kills, Hasselman with 9 kills, and Crawford with 6 kills. Senior Ashley Bennett had 2 kills on 2 swings, including set point in set 2. Veldhuizen had a good night from the service line as she went 21 of 23 with 1 ace. Kailyn Risher and Crawford served the other two aces. Christenson had 28 assists in the match. For the defense, Veldhuizen had 11 digs, with Wills and Hasselman adding 8 apiece. Risher led the blockers with 3 blocks and Wills had 2.
The Junior Varsity team also defeated Norwalk 25-17, 25-21 to end the season with a victory. Libby VanMersbergen led the offense with 3 kills, while Zoe Lynch, Ali Andeway, Bailey Englehardt, and Chace Moyer all had 2 kills. Kailey Scharff had 3 service aces and went 13 for 13 serving. As a team, the Indians had 8 service aces. Taylor Richardson and Andeway split the setting duties and had 5 assists each. Scharff had 11 digs for the defense, while VanMersbergen and Richardson had 5 digs apiece. Emily Allison added 2 blocks in the victory.
While showing much improvement, the freshmen dropped their match to Norwalk 16-25, 18-25. Sonja Iverson had 3 kills and Maria Settimi had 2 kills. Allison Chapman, Tori Palmer, and Andie Reif all had 1 ace serve. Hailey Adams added 5 assists and 4 digs, plus Chapman added 2 digs.
The varsity team will return to action on Thursday, October 25 at home against the winner of Indianola/Carlisle. This is a regional semi-final match. The winner will play on Tuesday, October 30 for the right to go to State.
