Lady Statesmen Fall 1-0 to Dutch

William Penn Women’s Athletics

Oskaloosa–The William Penn women’s soccer team gave a solid defensive effort against a strong non-conference foe, but could not keep Central off the scoreboard the entire night in a 1-0 loss Tuesday.

The Lady Statesmen (2-14) were outshot 30-4, but managed to prevent the Dutch (11-4-1) from breaking through in the first half. The visitors finally snapped the scoreless tie at the 56:30 mark when Alayna Bailey put in a shot off a pass from Emily Saville.

Despite two solid chances by Leslie Hernandez (Jr., Bolingbrook, Ill., Biology), Central held on for the win.

Laura Gentry (Jr., Fruitland, Idaho, Physical Education) stopped nine shots on the evening.

Next: William Penn travels to Des Moines Saturday to meet Grand View in Midwest Collegiate Conference action at 5 p.m.
