William Penn Swept by Clarke in MCC Play
Dubuque–The Lady Statesmen volleyball team had a chance to pick up a big Midwest Collegiate Conference victory Tuesday, but its host was not in a giving mood as William Penn fell 3-0 to Clarke.
William Penn (21-10, 1-3 MCC), who lost by scores of 16-25, 13-25, 23-25, was outhit .313-.095.
The first two sets went easily in favor of the Crusaders (21-7, 3-2 MCC), who led wire-to-wire in both. The Lady Statesmen bounced back in set #3, leading several time early, including a 12-10 edge. Unfortunately, Clarke reeled off seven straight points to take the lead for good.
William Penn pulled even at 18, but failed to regain the advantage. The navy and gold was seeking to even up its league mark, but now may have to win its last two matchups versus Mount Mercy and AIB to possibly earn a first-round home game in the MCC Tournament.
