Funds Available to Local Non-Profits

Mahaska County Outreach

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Mahaska County Outreach is accepting funding applications from non-profit organizations that provide humanitarian aid to residents of the local area. Grant applications are available at the Mahaska County Outreach Thrift Store, 114 North 1st Street in Oskaloosa.

Mahaska County Outreach was established in 1983, when The Salvation Army closed their charity operations in Oskaloosa. MCO’s goal is to provide assistance to Mahaska County residents who are victims of fire or storm, require medical or hospice care, or need food, shelter or clothing. Mahaska County Outreach funds are raised through the sale of donated clothing and household goods in its thrift store.

According to Paul Groenenboom, president of group, MCO will distribute$10,000 to other Mahaska County non-profit organizations. Grant funding will range from $500 to $2,000, available for special projects or general charitable operations that serve the needy of Mahaska County. Organizations recognized as 501c3 by the IRS or departments of local government qualify for funding. Funds cannot be provided to religious organizations.

Grant application forms are available from Store Manager Alice Moore at Mahaska County Outreach Thrift Store, Monday through Saturday during regular store hours. Completed requests are due by Saturday, November 17, with funds to be awarded during December 2012.
