CROP WALK ALONG THE TRAIL
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The annual CROP Walk, a walking fundraiser to bring awareness and raise funds to feed the hungry, began at the Lacey Recreation Complex on Sunday, October 14th. The wind was biting cold, but walkers said once they began the walk it was comfortable enough. The walk began at the 5-plex baseball fields, wound around and under the Railroad underpass to the high school, and followed road access to the Presbyterian Church, where the walk ended in hot cider and hot dogs for the participants. Nearly $4,000 was raised, with the proceeds being split between the hunger programs of Church World Service and the Oskaloosa Ecumenical Cupboard. Because of the cold weather the walkers were shuttled back to the complex, but Andy Baker, Director of Outreach at Central Reformed Church, was pleased with the turnout of 64 people and stated “we are so proud of everyone that turned out despite the awful weather. To have a strong increase in both walkers and funds raised over last year in such conditions is a testament to the commitment of people in this community to fight hunger at home and around the world.” The Crop walk fall fund raiser takes place each year in October.
