Dubuque–A one-day weather postponement unfortunately did not help the Lady Statesmen soccer team sneak out a road win, falling 4-0 to Clarke in Midwest Collegiate Conference action Saturday.

William Penn (2-13, 0-5 MCC) was outshot 29-5, including two attempts by Emmanuella Meneide (Jr., Turks and Caicos, Biology).

The Crusaders put up two goals in the first half and then added two more after the break. Laura Gentry (Jr., Fruitland, Idaho, Physical Education) recorded seven saves in the first stanza, while Amber Klootwyk (Fr., Knoxville, Iowa, Business Management/Education) managed nine more stops.

“We played pretty well at times, but ultimately the wet conditions and athleticism of Clarke broke us down at crucial times,” Head Coach Willie McGowan said. “I am delighted by our effort. We are starting to see our players play the type of game we want to install in our program. Sadly, it was still another loss, but we can still take a lot of positives from this game.”

Next: William Penn returns home Tuesday to host Central in non-conference play at 7 p.m. The game will serve as Hope for Hunger Night as fans are encouraged to donate any non-perishable goods.
