MOBILE, Ala. – Three weeks ago, Laura Krull ’13 proved herself the top singles player in the Midwest Region.

Now the Grinnell College women’s tennis player is set to test herself against the best in the nation.

Krull will compete in the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships this weekend at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala. There she will joined by seven other regional champions in the eight-player NCAA Division III field.

Krull, who is from New Braunfels, Texas (Keystone National), will take on the champion of the Northwest/Southwest Region. That player, whose name has not been announced on the tournament web site, will enter the event as the third seed. The match is slated for Thursday morning.

“Playing in the USTA/ITA National Championships is a wonderful opportunity for Laura, and of course, we at Grinnell College are thrilled to have her represent our institution,” said Pioneers’ coach Andy Hamilton. “Among the many reasons I am excited for Laura are the fact that she qualified in her senior year after struggling with injuries throughout her career, and that she completely exemplifies what
it means to be a scholar-athlete.”

Krull, the first Pioneer woman to compete in the event, enters the meet with a singles record of 10-1.

“I’m incredibly excited for this amazing opportunity,” said Krull. “I’m thrilled I have the chance to play at nationals, and I’ll be leaving it all on the court. Playing at nationals is a dream come true for me, so I’m going to give my best and just make the most of the entire experience.”
