Lady Statesmen Open 2012-2013 with 13th-Place Showing

Wauwatosa, Wis.–The William Penn women’s bowling team just missed a top-ten showing as it began the season at the Midwest Collegiate Tournament Saturday and Sunday.

The navy and gold placed 13th out of 30 teams last weekend with a nine-game tally of 10,234 pins. Davenport (Mich.) won a tight race for the title, holding off Lindenwood (Mo.) by 12 pins (10,836). The top five teams were separated by just 100 pins.

Caitlin Hofmann of Robert Morris (Ill.) won the individual crown with a 206.9 average (1,862 pins).

Kirstin Newberry (Jr., Holland, Mich., Secondary Education) topped William Penn by placing ninth out of 210 competitors with a 194.2 average. Breanne Underwood (Treynor, Iowa, Master’s of Business Leadership), with a 180.1 average, and Jessica Ganem (Sr., Austin, Texas, Psychology), with a 171.3 clip, also started all nine games.

Samantha Powell (Sr., Herriman, Utah, Psychology/Human Services) and Kelsey Johnson (So., Montgomery, Ill.) each rolled eight games with Powell managing a 184.8 average and Johnson finishing at 179.4.

L’Neisha Porter (Fr., Chicago, Ill., General Accounting) posted a 182 in her lone game, while Abigayle Wempen (Sr., Titonka, Iowa, Public Accounting) knocked down 138 pins in her only action.

Next: William Penn is off one weekend before returning to action October 20-21 at the Kegel/ISBPA Collegiate Classic in Peoria, Ill.
