Men’s Bowling Preview: Statesmen Bowling Team Believes
Oskaloosa, Iowa – Another bowling season has arrived, and the William Penn men’s team is more than ready. The team will be opening the season this weekend by traveling to Wauwatosa, Wis. for the Midwest Collegiate Tournament. The tournament is known for having the best teams in the nation, and the Statesmen will be seeking to defend their title under instruction from Head Coach Mark Van Wyk.
Looking to continue on their success from last year, the team will be taking a new approach this year, formed around their motto of ‘Believe’. The concept brought to the team by a returning varsity member, sophomore Brandon Barboza. Last year’s team was ranked top-ten nationally and finished fifth or better in ten of 12 tournaments in which they competed, highlighted by two tournament titles. With positive attitudes and focused minds, the team is determined to do even better than years prior.
Leading the team this year are captains Cameron Foster and Andrew Balta, both juniors. The duo is ready for the long road ahead, and is prepared for any challenges the team may face. In addition to the two captains, there are several other returning varsity players from last year’s outstanding team, including sophomore Conan Mackey, senior Nathan Namanny, and junior Piet Schaeffer. The Statesmen also acquired a lot of new talented freshmen from all corners of the United States, including Alaska. These new players will bring qualities that will contribute to the team’s success.
The team is proud to announce that it has again received a sponsorship from Roto Grip, one of the world’s leading ball manufacturers, for the second year in a row. The company was proud to welcome the Statesmen back due to the high rate of success from the prior year. One final announcement; the Statesmen bowling team will be fundraising in the near future, so be sure show your support of your fellow Statesmen. Also, be sure to look for updates on the team’s success at www.collegebowling.com and on our Statesmen Bowling Facebook fan page.
