Ottumwa USSSA softball, lead by Rob Griener, hosted a 37 team USSSA softball tournament over the weekend at the Lacey Recreation Complex in Oskaloosa. Thirty-seven teams from the surrounding communities competed at the 5-plex, bringing over 1500 spectators each day. Over 400 players covered the grounds, on the fields and surrounding the complex. Batting cages were definitely used this weekend! One dad from West Des Moines stated that Lacey fields were the nicest fields they had ever played on, including their own, and that they had played in many tournaments. “We received several compliments on the complex and I am glad that all appreciate what we have here. I am also glad that hosting these type of tournaments, especially when they are more than one day tournaments, brings in as many visitors that enjoy our community,” stated Sherry Vavra Executive Director of MCRF. A couple of local teams competed in the tournament over the weekend and some continue to practice at the complex for their fall season.
