MAHASKA COUNTY – Mahaska Health Partnership will host its Free Women’s Breast Health Night on Tuesday, Oct. 16 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the Gateway Church of the Nazarene Youth Center in Oskaloosa.
“We are pleased to offer the 5th Annual Women’s Breast Health Night as a benefit to women in our region,” MHP Director of Radiology Julie Hartke said. “This free event is open to all women, and we invite past attendees to keep coming back as we are constantly changing the content.
“All women are encouraged to gather their girlfriends and make this a special evening out because it will feature delicious hors d’oeuvres, fun door prizes as well as potentially life-saving information about screenings and women’s health in general.”
According to the American Cancer Society, over 2,000 women in Iowa will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. Hartke said the Women’s Breast Health Night is an opportunity to raise awareness.
“The number of deaths related to breast cancer is steadily declining,” Hartke stressed. “The earlier breast cancer is caught, the easier it is to treat. During Women’s Night, area health professionals will share ways attendees can protect themselves.”
Hartke said this year’s featured speaker will be OB/GYN Specialist Dr. Jeffrey Fowler, an expert with more than 16 years of experience in women’s health. “Dr. Fowler is a fantastic resource for our community and we’re so thankful to have him practicing at MHP. Dr. Fowler will speak on women’s health issues, the importance of regular exams and what a woman should be looking for during a self breast exam.”
The Free Women’s Breast Health Night is sponsored, in part, by a grant from the Southeast Iowa Affiliate of Komen for the Cure. Attendance is free but pre-registration is required. Call 641-672-3369 or visit mahaskahealth.org to register.
