Doane to Host Women’s Golf National Preview Meet
The Doane College women’s golf team will play host to the Doane Invitational on September 24-25 at Wilderness Ridge GC in Lincoln, Nebraska. The par 71, 5,965 yard course will also serve as a preview meet for the NAIA National Championship meet that will be held in May 2013. As announced in June, Doane College and Wilderness Ridge GC will be joined by the Lincoln Convention and Visitor’s Bureau as the host of the 2013 and 2014 NAIA women’s golf championship.

A record number of 21 teams will be participating in the Doane Invitational this year with the first tee time on Monday morning at 9:00 AM. The meet will include four of the Top 15 teams from last year’s national meet held in Greeneville, Tennessee. William Woods University (Mo.) placed fourth, Lubbock Christian University (Texas) place seventh, Wayland Baptist University (Texas) took 10th and Concordia University (Ore.) tied for 12th at the national meet.

It is expected that seven of the Top 40 individual finishers from last year’s championship meet will be participating in the Doane Invitational. Although not all teams have declared their participants, it is expected that among the top golfers participating will be Jamie Palermo of William Woods University. Palermo placed third overall at the national meet in May, shooting a four-round score of 295, three-over par. Of the area participants in the meet, Kenzie Rottinghaus of Grand View University (Iowa) tied for 31st at the national meet a year ago.

This meet will also serve as a preview meet for the Second Round of the GPAC Women’s Golf Championship. Doane will host the next round of play on October 3 at Wilderness Ridge GC. Ten of the 11 conference schools will be participating in the meet on Monday and Tuesday with Mount Marty College (S.D.) electing not to participate.
