Central women’s soccer squad shuts out Monmouth

Central College

PELLA —After a scoreless first half, the Central College women’s soccer team rallied to defeat Monmouth College (Ill.), 3-0. The Dutch outshot the Hawks 10-7.

Despite the 0-0 first half, coach Mike Kobylinski was happy with the turnaround.

“I am very pleased with how we responded,” he said. “We were able to play all 19 ladies, and they all did well going into the wind in the second half.”

Securing her second shutout, goalkeeper Steph Hasken (senior, Davenport, West HS) had five saves. Forward Alayna Bailey (junior, Des Moines, Hoover) notched two back-to-back goals at the 61st and 63rd minutes and midfielder Maddy Frehe (junior, De Soto, Kan.) scored another goal in the final minutes. Forward Brittany Hinton (sophomore, Davenport, West HS), midfielder Gabbi Muse (sophomore, Waukee) and midfielder Julie Wunder (junior, Muscatine) each had one assist.

“Alayna played really well while being double teamed and had some clinical finishes,” Kobylinski said. “Brittany, Gabbi and Julie all had some really nice assists, and I was very happy to see Maddy get that last goal.

“I am so pleased with the all-around team effort for another shutout,” he said.

The Dutch (3-2) take on Westminster (Mo.) Friday at 5 p.m. at the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex field.
