Oskaloosa. Dorothy Margaret “Dottie” Hunt, 93, died Friday, August 31 at Northern Mahaska Care Center. She was born September 18, 1918, in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of George and Margaret Klemm Lohmuller. Although she lived in three other states, Dottie always considered herself a true New Yorker. Dottie was the second oldest of eight children, most of whom were known for their beautiful red hair. On May 29, 1948, she was united in marriage to William Gerard Hunt. Shortly after, they moved to Massachusetts where they raised their four sons in the small town of Southwick. After many years of California dreaming, the Hunts moved to Glendora, California in 1971. In 2003, Bill and Dottie came to Oskaloosa, Iowa to be near their son Douglas. Bill died in 2004.

Dottie was a lifelong Catholic who prayed the rosary daily. She had a wicked sense of humor and was the life of every party! She was very creative and made crocheted afghans, dolls, and other craft items to decorate her home and give to family members. She loved games and jokingly referred to herself as a “professional” bingo player. Dottie was very patriotic and always went all out to celebrate the 4th of July, Christmas, and every other holiday. In her later years, Dottie especially liked to read and to follow sports and current events. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Oskaloosa.

Dorothy’s family includes her four sons, Bruce (Kathie) of Loveland, Colorado, Kenneth of Wrightwood, California, Douglas (Mary Beth) of Oskaloosa, and Keith (Julie) of Wrightwood, California; her grandchildren, Mackinzie, Nicolette, Jessica, Tyler, and Breanna; two great grandchildren Milania and Camron; two sisters, Alice Basso of Staten Island, New York and Joan Pellerin of Anaheim Hills, California; a sister-in law, Lorraine Florio of Inverness Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill, and her siblings Ruth, Mary, Margie, Georgie, and Gertrude.
