Robert Donald Johnson, 78, of Keswick and formerly of Bloomington, Illinois, died Saturday, August 11, 2012, at the Sigourney Care Center in Sigourney.
Robert was born Tuesday, March 13, 1934 in Wapello County, Iowa, the son of William and Maude Wooden Johnson. He graduated from the Ottumwa High School with the class of 1952. Following graduation he served in the U.S. Marine Corp. from 1952 until his discharge in 1956. On June 18, 1956, he was united in marriage to Donna Kerr at the Methodist Church in Kirkville, Iowa. Donna died October 7, 1999. Bob attended the University of Iowa and received his bachelor’s degree in fine arts in 1959. Following his graduation from the University of Iowa, he and Donna moved to Bloomington, Illinois where he owned and operated Bob Johnson’s Photography Studio until his retirement in 1997. He then worked part time at Map Auto Parts for a few years. Bob was a member of the Bloomington Camera Club, Calvary Baptist Church in Normal, Illinois, and volunteered at the Ministry and More Food Pantry in Normal. He was an avid wood worker, enjoyed painting, rock collecting, propagating plants and was known for having a very green thumb.
Bob is survived by a brother: Chuck Johnson of Mundelein, Illinois; a sister: Nina McAlister of Bellflower, California; many nieces and nephews; and his very special friend “Goofus” the cat.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; 4 brothers: Harold, John, Art, and William Johnson; and 4 sisters: Margaret Rounceville, Bertha Cavanaugh, Ruby Terrell, and Rosa Majors.
Memorials may be made in Robert’s name to Hospice of Keokuk County.
