Dorothy passed away Tuesday afternoon at Hospice of Pella Comfort House at the age of 79 years, nine months and two days. Dorothy Lucille was born, October 15, 1932, at the home of her parents, Leroy Reece “Roy” and Lucille May Littlejohn McWilliams, in Garfield Township, Mahaska County, Iowa. She attended Six Mile School and Oskaloosa High School. She met the love of her life, Donald Lee Visser at a 4-H meeting in 1948. They were married, March 5, 1950, at the United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa by Rev. W.M. Scheuermann.
Her surviving family includes, husband Donald of 62 years and six daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Mrs. Christine (Howard “Dennis”) Stoffa of Ankeny, Aaron (Jeanette Ganoe) Stoffa, Shelby & Sara Stoffa of Altoona; Ms. Connie Visser of Pella; Mrs. Cindy (Richard “Rick”) Waits of Pella, Jason Waits, Jillian & Jarret Waits of Oskaloosa, Mrs. Jessica (John) Roozeboom, William & Grant Roozeboom of Ankeny; Mrs. Carol (Randal “Randy”) Rozenboom of Bussey, Justin (Rebecca “Beck” Mock) Rozenboom, Logan, Landon & Elaina Rozenboom of Knoxville, Ranae Rozenboom of Knoxville; Mrs. Coleen (Merlin) Bueltel of Fremont, Mrs. Wendy (Roger Jr. “Jay”) Lappin Wolver, Nicole & Tiffany Wolver of New Sharon, Joseph “Joe” (Carolyn Sewell) Lappin of Tracy, step-grandchildren: Dustin Bueltel of Ames, Dr. Stacy Bueltel of North Liberty; and Mrs. Cheryl (Larry) Main of Moravia, Mitchell “Mitch” (Jeannie Parks) Main, Natalie & Abigail Main of Moravia, Nicholas “Nick” Main, Laney & Alexis “Lexy” Main of Albia, and Mandy Main of Moravia. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Mary McWilliams of Summerville, Oregon; a brother, Keith (Betty) McWilliams of Oskaloosa; nieces and nephews: Mrs. Jodie (Keith) Dalby, Kyle and Kaden Dalby of Aloha, Oregon; Brant McWilliams of Summerville, Oregon; Mrs. Karey (Brian) McCrea, KJ and Jared McCrea of Eddyville; and Shon McWilliams of Allen, Texas.
Dorothy loved shopping for material to make lap blankets, baby blankets, quilts and giving them to children and adults. She loved playing and buying things for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also, she loved working on her family history.
Paul Brooks guided Dorothy to the Lord as her savior; she belonged to the Union Liberty Church for many years. She was baptized in our Lord, death and resurrection and is with him now. Don’t be sad, she is with her parents, “Roy” and Lucille McWilliams, her sister, Martha Marie McWilliams who died May 31, 1946, and her brother, Jerry Lee McWilliams who died December 25, 2011.
Memorials may be made to the Beacon Cemetery or the American Cancer Society.
Visitation: will begin at 10 a.m., Thursday morning, July 19, 2012 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel. The family will be present from 5 – 7 p.m. to greet visitors.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Friday morning, July 20, 2012 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Homer McBeth of Union Liberty Church, Bussey and Rev. Paul Hughes of Point of Grace Church, Ottumwa officiating.
Interment: Beacon Cemetery near Beacon, Iowa
