Martha Holliday
Martha Holliday, 75, of Cedar Falls, and formerly of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, July 15, 2012, at the Cedar Falls Health Center in Cedar Falls. She was born on December 5, 1936, at Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Seth and Marie Langfitt Holliday. She graduated from the Oskaloosa High School. Following graduation she entered the United States Army. In her twenty plus years in the Army she had assignments working as a recruiter all over the world, including: Okinawa, Des Moines, Iowa, Normal, Illinois, Alabama and many other duty stations. She retired from the Army with the rank of Master Sergeant. In retirement she moved to Cedar Falls. She enjoyed helping her friend Bonnie Rodgers with her vegetable garden and vegetable stand. She enjoyed going fishing and riding in her sports cars.
Her family includes her brother, Melvin Holliday of Honduras; aunts and uncles, Catherine and Walter Brown of Oskaloosa, Beatrice Lanphier of Oskaloosa, and Roberta and Robert Logan of Tucson, Arizona. Martha had many friends that were very good to her through her illness including, Neal, Kim, Debra (whom she thought of as a daughter), Daniel, Matthew, and Leah (whom she thought of as her grandchildren).
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, an aunt, Geneva Sheesley; and an uncle, Charles Langfitt.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. Graveside military rites will be given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W. Burial will be in the Indianapolis Cemetery northeast of Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Tuesday after 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Tuesday evening to greet friends and relatives.
