Oskaloosa, Iowa – The team won the District 2 double elimination tournament held at the Lacey Complex July 7, 8 and 9. Oskaloosa won their first game over Lucas County 14-1 by run rule in 5 innings. In the second game Oskaloosa drew the Rathbun Area All Stars who received a first round bye and came into the tournament as the defending state champions. Oskaloosa controlled the game from start to finish and won 6-2. Oskaloosa then awaited the winner of the loser bracket game between Rathbun and Lucas County with Rathbun winning 10-1. Since Oskaloosa didn’t have a loss yet Rathbun would have to beat them twice to win the championship. Oskaloosa came out strong in the game with 4 runs in the first inning and played well but just couldn’t hang on for the win and lost 7-4. That set up the final game in which Oskaloosa dominated the game with strong pitching, defense, and timely hitting shutting out Rathbun for a 3-0 win.

Oskaloosa and Rathbun both will advance on to State play in Boone where there will be eight teams competing on July 20-25. One team will advance on to regional play from the double elimination tournament. Oskaloosa’s first game is slated to be against Ottumwa who was the winner in District 9.
