Debra Atchison
Debra Atchison, 60, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, July 9, 2012, at her home in Oskaloosa. She was born November 27, 1951, at Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of John and Anne Whitlatch and was later adopted by Franklin and Kay Stam Stering. Early on she worked as a Nurse’s Aide. She later stayed home to care for her children and home. On June 22, 1979, she was united in marriage to Jerry Atchison at Oskaloosa, he died November 26, 2011. She had been a member of the Eagles in Oskaloosa. Debra enjoyed fishing, dancing with Jerry, playing cards, and car rides. She delighted in spending time with her family. She also enjoyed bargain hunting at flea markets and garage sales. She loved her dogs.
Her family includes her seven children, Lisa (& Alfonso) Reid of Oskaloosa, Sheila Lynn “Joe” (& Christopher) Talli of Oskaloosa, Christina (& Layton) Bond of Eddyville, Tony (& Brenda) Atchison of Albia, Calvin (& Peggy) Atchison of Albia, Kim Ripperberger of Lacona and April (& Jamie) McKim of Albia; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; a brother, Skip (& Shirley) Whitlatch; and many foster brothers and sisters.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 12, 2012, at 7 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. As was her wish her body will be cremated following the funeral ceremony. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Thursday after 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5 p.m. until service time at 7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Debra Atchison Memorial Fund.
