#9 Story of the 2011-2012 Year
The #9 story of 2011-2012 recalls two of the best single-week performances of the year.
In back-to-back months, freshman golfer Maggie Yang and senior softball player Brianne Rowley each earned NAIA National Player of the Week honors, the first at William Penn since 2004-2005.
Yang, who finished her season as a first-team all-Midwest Collegiate Conference performer, highlighted the year by breaking 18 and 36-hole school records at the Iowa Intercollegiate Championships on March 24-25.
The freshman shot a 76 Saturday to tie the program mark and then dropped one more stroke on Sunday for the 18-hole record. Her two-day tally of 151 demolished the old mark of 157, set by teammate Dena Stevens. Yang collected her accolade on March 28.
Rowley’s season was also record-breaking as she was one of two players to set a new home run record with 17 roundtrippers (Khyia Lewis also had 17). The senior’s Easter week trumped all the others, though, as she paced all NAIA players at the plate. That week, Rowley hit .478 (11-of-23) with five home runs, one triple, 13 RBIs, and 13 runs scored. She received her laurel on April 10.
Rowley was also a first-team all-MCC selection.
