David Milam
David Milam, 30, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, June 18, 2012, at his home in Oskaloosa. He was born February 6, 1982, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Daniel and Becky Phillips Milam. He graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the class of 2000. He attended Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. While in high school he worked at Happy Joe’s and On Cue music store in the Penn Central Mall. While in Cedar Rapids he worked at Odies Restaurant in Ely. Lastly he worked at Movie Land and Pizza Hut in Oskaloosa. He enjoyed helping his dad with the Republican Central Committee. He had a lifelong love of movies namely Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean, and anything starring Kevin Smith. David and his mother would often exchange Star Wars gifts as they both enjoyed the movies and collectables. He also enjoyed watching professional wrestling on television.
He is survived by his mom, Becky Jacobs of Oskaloosa; his brother and his wife, Phillip and Leighanne Milam of West Des Moines; his maternal grandfather, Wayne Phillips of Oskaloosa; and two nephews, Grant Milam and Josh Den Hartog; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, his paternal grandparents, and his maternal grandmother.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 22, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. in the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. As was his wish cremation will follow the funeral ceremony. Burial of the cremated remains will be next to his father in Missouri, at a later date. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Thursday after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel; the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Thursday evening to greet friends and relatives.
