The Oskaloosa Lightning 12U baseball team hosted their 3rd Annual Longball Classic over the weekend at the Lacey Recreation Complex. Thirty youth baseball teams joined the tournament from all over Iowa, and one from central Illinois at the 5-plex and Babe Ruth fields. With more than 1,100 people coming out to support the USSSA players, the baseball atmosphere was great! One Oskaloosa team, Osky Storm, participated in the tournament and ended the weekend with a 1st place victory in the 10U division over the Johnston Generals. Other division winners included Sudden Impact of Ankeny (8U), Fairfield Cougers(9U), and the D-Backs of Johnston (14U). Oskaloosa Lightning boys team did not play in the tournament as host but were eager to help throughout the tournament, grabbing rakes and raking the fields into shape before each game. Doug Yates and Doug DeKock, coaches of Osky Lightning, thanked everyone for a successful weekend, Yates stating “We received rave reviews about the five-plex fields and the two Babe Ruth fields.” Good job to all that participated and thanks to everyone that came out to watch.
