Navy and Gold Again Fifth in Commissioner’s Cup

Oskaloosa–A pair of titles helped William Penn to it second-consecutive fifth-place finish as the 2011-2012 Midwest Collegiate Conference’s Commissioner’s Cup Standings were released.

All 17 of the league’s sponsored sports have determined their champions and points have been awarded for finishes in the final regular season standings or finishes in the league’s championship event. Bonus points were also awarded to conference tournament winners.

The MCC sponsors men’s soccer, women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s cross country, women’s cross country, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s indoor track & field, women’s indoor track & field, men’s bowling, women’s bowling, baseball, softball, men’s golf, women’s golf, men’s outdoor track & field, and women’s outdoor track & field.

William Penn earned 825 points, 145 more than last year, to place fifth out of ten teams, highlighted by titles in women’s bowling and softball. Men’s basketball (2nd), men’s bowling (3rd), women’s basketball (4th), women’s golf (4th), and men’s outdoor track and field (4th) all ended their campaigns in the top half of the league as well.

Grand View recorded its third-straight Cup title with 1,280 points, including championships in 12 sports (three shared): men’s soccer, women’s soccer, volleyball, women’s cross country, women’s basketball, men’s indoor track and field, women’s indoor track and field, baseball, men’s golf, women’s golf, men’s outdoor track and field, and women’s outdoor track and field.

St. Ambrose picked up another runner-up finish with 1,070 points and three titles (two shared), while Ashford grabbed the bronze with 1,010 points (one shared title). Mount Mercy was fourth with 995 points and two titles (one shared).

Viterbo (755 points), Clarke (630 points, one title), Iowa Wesleyan (430 points), Waldorf (240 points), and newcomer AIB (105 points) rounded out the standings.
