Oskaloosa. Harold J. Petersma, 76, of Oskaloosa, died Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. On January 27, 1936, he was born at Iowa City, the son of John and Katie Slycord Petersma. He worked at Pella Corp for over 45 years before retiring in 1997. On March 15, 1974, Harold was united in marriage to Linda Maxwell at Rockford, Illinois. He served in the National Guard for many years. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, working puzzles, and working in his yard and flower garden. He was a member of the Ottumwa Baptist Temple.

His family includes his wife, Linda Petersma of Oskaloosa; a son: Larry Petersma (& Lori Hoch) of Indianola; daughters: Angie (& Jim) Bixler of Oskaloosa, Cindy (& Randy) Paris of Bloomfield, Robin Petersma ( & Kris Kelly) of Grimes, and Becky (& Dennis) Baker-Bey of Jefferson City, Missouri; 17 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; five brothers: Leonard Petersma and Richard (& Sharon) Petersma, all of Pella, John Petersma, Robert (& Becky) Petersma, and Norman (& Deb) Petersma, all in Texas; four sisters: Dorothy Van Dorn of Pella, Mary (& Roy) DeLong of Leighton, Evelyn (& Pete) Asher of Beacon, and Betty Pietersma of Little Rock, Arkansas; a sister in law: Pam Petersma in Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Margaret Clark; a brother: Charlie Petersma; a sister in law: Janet Petersma; and a brother in law: Jerry Van Dorn.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Randy Miller of the Ottumwa Baptist Temple officiating. Burial will be Forest Cemetery, Oskaloosa. Visitation will begin on Tuesday after 10 a.m., and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Tuesday from 5 – 7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. A memorial fund has been established in his name.
