PELLA, IOWA — Tim Tripp announced today that he plans to run for the Iowa State Senate in District 40, which includes Appanoose, Monroe and Mahaska counties; northwest Wapello County, including the towns of Blakesburg, Chillicothe, Eddyville and Kirkville; and northeast Marion County, including the city of Pella.

Tripp resides in Pella with his wife, Kathy Jaarsma Tripp, and their children Aemelia, Bailey and Naomi.

“Together we can restore Iowa’s economy and reclaim the best-in-the-nation status for Iowa schools — from our community schools, to our universities and private colleges,” Tripp said. “We can do this by changing the priorities at the State Capitol to reflect the needs of the middle class. That’s why I’m running for the Iowa Senate.

“Partisan bickering and endless debate on the so-called ‘hot button’ issues are not the priorities of regular Iowans,” Tripp added. “The bottom line is that most Iowans want an honest, common-ground approach from their State Senator. I pledge to do my very best to make sure the people of District 40 are represented fairly, honestly and responsibly.”

Tripp added: “If I’m fortunate enough to earn the support of the voters of District 40, I pledge that their voice will be heard at the State Capitol.”

Tripp is a private practice attorney, specializing primarily in Social Security disability law. He owns Tripp, P.C., with offices in Pella and West Des Moines. Tripp is a member of the Christian Legal Society; he served on the Iowa Legal Aid Board and Iowa Legal Aid Foundation from 2008-2011, and in both 2009 and 2010, Tripp received a Pro Bono Service commendation by the Iowa Supreme Court for his volunteer legal service for low-income Iowans.

Tripp, a Democrat, grew up in Sully, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin (Madison) in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He graduated from Brooklyn Law School in 1989. In 1996, he and his wife Kathy moved back to Pella to raise their family. Tripp has been very active in the community, serving as an Elder at Third Reformed Church in Pella and on it’s Executive Board from 2008 to 2011. He also served as president of the Pella Public Library Board in 2006. And currently, Tripp serves on the Pella Community School Board.

“I believe that being active in your community helps ensure a safe, healthy environment in which to raise your family,” Tripp said. “I plan to campaign by visiting every community of Senate District 40, listening to the concerns of the people, and working to address their challenges and ideas at the State Capitol.
