Central’s Goodenow, Vegter land academic honor

Central College

PELLA— Central College seniors Brent Goodenow (Johnston) and Matt Vegter (Morrison, Ill.) have been named Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

Goodenow carried a 3.34 grade point average with majors in business management and Spanish. He’s a two-time NCAA men’s golf championships participant and received all-Iowa Conference honors earlier this season with a fourth-place finish at the league meet.

Vegter posted a 3.23 GPA majoring in business finance. He’s also a two-time NCAA participant and claimed all-league honors finishing fifth at the conference meet.

To qualify for the academic honor, a student-athlete must maintain a 3.2 or better cumulative GPA, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70 percent of his team’s competitive rounds or in the NCAA men’s golf championships and have a stroke average under 79.0.

Both Goodenow and Vegter helped the Dutch capture their 30th league crown and are part of Central’s lineup making its 31st national appearance this week at Howey-in-the-Hills Fla. Central is tied for 12th after the opening round and must stay in the top 15 after Wednesday’s second round to advance to the final two rounds of the 72-hole tournament.
