GRINNELL’S NODZENSKI NAMED TO BASEBALL ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT FIRST TEAM
GRINNELL, Iowa – After being selected to the second team last year, Grinnell College’s Mike Nodzenski ’12 has moved up to the elite squad on the Capital One Academic All-District Baseball Team.
Nodzenski, a biology major from Naperville, Ill. (Naperville North), is having another banner season for the Pioneers. He leads the team in batting average (.371), home runs (six), doubles (13), RBIs (26), slugging percentage (.667), on-base percentage (.488) and walks (22). The catcher also has a .983 fielding percentage.
A three-time Midwest Conference South Division Player of the Year, Nodzenski was named to two All-American teams last year and was a first-team preseason All-American in 2012. He is also an All-Region and Academic All-Conference performer.
A career .398 hitter in 130 games, Nodzenski holds Grinnell career records for home runs (37), doubles (47), RBIs (162) and hits (191) and also has multiple school records in season and game categories. He also has a .991 fielding percentage behind the plate.
By being named first-team Academic All-District, Nodzenski advances to the Academic All-America ballot. That team will be announced later this month.
