Visitation: will begin at 9 a.m., Monday morning, May 07, 2012 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel. The family will greet friends and relatives from 2 – 2:45 p.m. at which time a procession will form to leave for the cemetery
Funeral Service: 3 p.m., Monday afternoon, May 07, 2012 at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
Carl passed away early Monday evening at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Services Serenity House at the age of 98 years, 2 months and 22 days.

Carl John McMurray, son of William and Lydia Risher McMurray, was born February 8, 1914 in Givin, Iowa. He was a 1932 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. Carl worked as a tool and dye maker at Maytag Corporation in Newton, IA for 32 years; he retired in 1979. Carl was a member of the First Christian Church, Tri-Luminar Lodge A.F. & A.M.; Za-Ga-Zig Shriners and York Rite Shrine. Carl’s passion was for helping children and youth; for over 50 years, he raised funds for and provided transportation to the Shriners’ Hospital in Minneapolis. Carl also enjoyed making turquoise jewelry and selling it at flea markets.

Carl’s family includes his long time friend, Ruth Roberts; his daughter, Lannie (Tom) Bosfield; Ruth’s daughter, Dyanne (Gary) McKeag of Oskaloosa and Ruth’s son, Rick (Judy) Roberts of Niles, IL; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; a niece, Dorothy June Wyers of Pella and his long-time caregiver, Shelly Lobbrecht of Oskaloosa.

In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his brothers, George and Roy McMurray.

Memorials may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital or MHP Hospice Services Serenity House.
