Miller leads Central decathletes at Drake Relays

DES MOINES—Central College’s Ethan Miller (senior, Seymour) leads a trio of Dutch track and field athletes after five events the in first day of the Drake Relays decathlon.

Miller is sitting in sixth place and is first among NCAA Division III competitors with 3,696 points. He recorded marks of 11.16 seconds in the 100 meters, 22 feet, 6.25 inches in the long jump, 35-11.25 in the shot put, 6-5 in the high jump, and a personal best of 50.75 in the 400 meters.

Meanwhile, Eric Larson (freshman, Waverly, Waverly-Shell Rock HS) and Breighen Powell (senior, Wellman, Mid-Prairie HS) are in ninth and 17th place respectively. Larson recorded marks of 11.46 in the 100 meters, 21-2.5 in the long jump, 35-9.5 in the shot put, 6-7.5 in the high jump, and 52.06 in the 400 meters to total 3,533 points. Powell recorded marks of 11.18 in the 100 meters, 35-6 in the shot put, 6-4 in the high jump, and 53.46 in the 400 meters to total 2,758 points. He fouled all three attempts in the long jump.

The decathlon will resume Thursday at 9:30 a.m. with the 110 hurdles. Central will also send a contingent of throwers to the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola to contest the hammer throw and discus throw at 2 p.m.
