A Picnic Fundraiser lunch on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 was put on by the team from Sedexo at William Penn, “we just wanted to do something for the community. The community supports us, so we wanted to give something back. We thought this would be a neat little thing to do,” says Jeff Halverson, General Manager of Sodexo Food Services at William Penn.

The outside picnic also helped change up lunch for the William Penn students, who got to enjoy the band and festive atmosphere in front of the Dana Atkins Memorial Union. Halverson said he also hoped that it would bring more of the community onto the campus of William Penn to “see what we do here.”

Mahaska Bottling supplied the beverages, Sodexo supplied the food and William Penn helped with the setup, such as tables and chairs and also using the marketing department to help spread the word.

The fundraiser for Ecumenical Cupboard ran from 11 am to 1:30 pm, and with the donation of 4 food items, or a simple cash donation of five dollars, a visitor had the opportunity to enjoy some of the food Sodexo has been famous for locally. In the end, more cash customers came through the line, helping to raise money for the food pantry.

Halverson, saying about how the day turned out, “Mother Nature, everybody was on our side today.” He said they would like to make it an annual event.
